Good News For Meru Residents As Ruto Announces Construction Of This Project Worth KSH3 Billion

President William Ruto has announced plans to construct a Ksh3 billion bypass road in Meru Town, a major infrastructure project aimed at easing traffic congestion and supporting the town’s urban growth.

The President made the announcement on Thursday during a development tour of Meru County. He said the bypass will play a key role in improving movement within the town by diverting through-traffic away from the central business area.

Meru Town has experienced steady population growth and increased commercial activity in recent years. As a result, traffic congestion has become a major challenge, especially during peak hours. The planned bypass is expected to reduce delays, improve travel time, and enhance road safety for motorists and pedestrians.

The project also aligns with the government’s broader plan to upgrade Meru into Kenya’s sixth city. Improved road infrastructure is seen as a critical requirement for city status, as it supports trade, investment, and service delivery.

Once completed, Meru will become the second town in Kenya to have a bypass system after Nairobi. Currently, Nairobi has four major bypasses that form a ring road around the city. These roads have helped reduce congestion in the capital by allowing long-distance traffic to avoid the city centre.

In addition to the Meru bypass, the President also announced plans to reconstruct the Nithi Bridge, a section of road that has for decades been known as a dangerous accident hotspot. The reconstruction is expected to begin in February 2026 and will cost approximately Ksh7 billion.
