Tension has emerged within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna was publicly attacked on social media by a popular socialite.
On Sunday, as reported by one of the local media houses, the socialite claimed that Sifuna’s political downfall started the day former Prime Minister Raila Odinga died. The remarks quickly caused debate, with many Kenyans reacting strongly online.
According to the social media socialite, Edwin Sifuna’s political journey will be extremely difficult without Raila Odinga’s support.
The socialite argued that Raila has been the backbone of ODM for many years and that leaders like Sifuna rose because of his influence.
In a strongly worded message, the socialite wrote,
“Without Baba Raila Odinga, you are nothing. Your political downfall started when Baba died.”
The statement sparked mixed reactions, with some agreeing while others strongly disagreed.
However, as the socialite continued to attack Sifuna, leaders allied to President William Ruto also joined the conversation.
Some of them warned the ODM Secretary General to stop what they described as constant criticism of the government.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei was among those who issued a sharp warning. According to Cherargei, Sifuna should either change his approach or risk being isolated politically.
He was quoted saying, “If Edwin Sifuna continues attacking the government every day, then he should be prepared to face the consequences. Politics should be about building the country, not endless criticism.”
The ongoing exchanges have raised questions about possible tension within ODM and the future of some of its leaders.
While some believe Sifuna has his own political strength and voice, others argue that Raila Odinga remains the pillar of the party and cannot be replaced.
Following the heated remarks, Kenyans took to social media platforms to share their opinions. Some defended Sifuna, saying he is outspoken and brave.
Others supported the socialite’s claims, insisting that Raila Odinga’s influence in ODM is unmatched.
