"Whatever Had Been Planned Against You is Dangerous, You've Run Out of Time": Warning Jirongo Received

Former Lugari MP and businessman Cyrus Jirongo once received a chilling warning from the son of former President Daniel arap Moi, a moment he later described as a turning point in his bitter fallout with the powerful establishment.

In a personal account, Jirongo recalled how accusations were allegedly being fed to President Moi by individuals he claimed were determined to destroy him politically and economically.

According to Jirongo, the situation had escalated to a level where even those close to the presidency could no longer intervene on his behalf.

“All sorts of accusations were being levelled against me to the president,” Jirongo stated.

He revealed that Moi’s son, whom he described as both a close friend and trusted confidant, personally visited his home to deliver the grave message.

“He pointed out to me that whatever had been planned against me was extremely dangerous,” Jirongo said.

“He told me that even he was unable to help and that I had run out of time.”

The warning, Jirongo noted, came at a time when political tensions around him were intensifying, signalling that powerful forces within government circles had already made up their minds.

He suggested that the visit was not meant to scare him, but rather to alert him to the seriousness of the threats he was facing.

As the political fire burned, Jirongo said his business interests also came under attack.

He specifically cited the Sololo contract with the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), which he claimed began to “burn” amid his fallout with senior government officials.

According to Jirongo, the then Head of Civil Service and Secretary to the Cabinet, Prof Philip Mbithi, allegedly took advantage of his disagreements with top figures in government to frustrate the contract.

Jirongo has consistently maintained that his troubles were politically motivated, describing himself as a loyal operative who later became an enemy of the system he once served.

His account offers a rare glimpse into the high-stakes power struggles of the Moi era, where political disagreements often spilled over into personal and financial ruin.
