New details have emerged in investigations into the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo following a fatal road crash at Karai on the Nairobi-Naivasha highway.
Authorities have now confirmed that the vehicle involved in the accident did not belong to Jirongo.
Records from the National Transport and Safety Authority show that the white Mercedes Benz with registration number KCZ 350C is registered to Smart Cars Limited.
The revelation has added a new layer of intrigue to an incident that continues to raise questions about Jirongo’s final moments.
Further scrutiny has been prompted by CCTV footage obtained from a petrol station that Jirongo entered shortly before the crash.
The footage shows that the road was clear with no visible traffic congestion and no overtaking taking place.
Jirongo is seen driving into the station, briefly turning within the compound and exiting without refuelling before rejoining the highway.
Seconds later his vehicle collided with a bus heading toward Naivasha.
The impact caused the bus to drag the car for a distance before stopping.
Surveillance footage indicates limited activity immediately after the crash despite claims that the bus was carrying dozens of passengers.
Investigators have also noted the appearance of a white Probox that entered the same petrol station moments after Jirongo.
The close timing has fuelled speculation that he may have been followed shortly before the accident, though this remains unconfirmed.
It has also been established that earlier that evening Jirongo missed a planned social gathering and was later seen at another venue before embarking on the journey that ended in tragedy.
The emerging details have intensified public calls for comprehensive investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.
