President William Ruto has ignited a fierce national debate after declaring that the projects he has delivered in just two years are only a glimpse of what Kenya would look like if he stayed in power for another decade or more.
Ruto listed roads, housing projects, irrigation schemes, power expansion and digital programs, then challenged Kenyans to “imagine what will happen in 10 or 20 years” if he is given more time.
The remarks spread fast online, turning into one of the most discussed political moments of the week.
Supporters quickly flooded social media praising the President’s confidence. Some said the visible projects across counties show momentum and argued that long-term leadership is needed to finish what has started.
Others called him focused and consistent, saying Kenya cannot afford to reset leadership every five years.
Critics were just as loud. Many accused Ruto of quietly launching his 2027 campaign, saying promises about the future do not ease the current pressure of high taxes, cost of living and job scarcity.
Some argued that past presidents also made big projections that failed to match everyday realities.
A third group questioned the timeline itself, asking why Kenyans should wait 10 or 20 years for relief when households are struggling now.
The debate quickly moved from development to trust, with users asking whether performance so far guarantees delivery later.
Allies see it as confidence in delivery, while opponents see it as premature campaigning. What is clear is that the 2027 race has shifted from whispers to open national conversation.
