Fresh details have emerged in the investigation into the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo following a fatal road crash at Karai along the Nairobi-Naivasha highway.
New CCTV evidence has raised serious questions about earlier accounts of how the accident occurred.
Footage obtained from a petrol station shows that Jirongo drove into the facility moments before the crash but did not fuel.
Records indicate the Mercedes-Benz he was driving was registered to a private company and not to him personally.
The footage shows the road was clear with no congestion or overtaking, contrary to claims made by the bus driver involved in the collision.
The footage captured Jirongo arriving at the station at around two eighteen in the morning from the Nairobi direction before making a brief turn and exiting within seconds.
Moments later his vehicle collided with a bus heading toward Naivasha and was dragged for a distance before coming to a stop.
CCTV evidence further shows that despite the bus reportedly carrying dozens of passengers, none disembarked to check on the wreckage, and no witness from the bus has publicly given an account of the incident.
Investigators are also examining footage showing a white Probox vehicle entering the same petrol station shortly after Jirongo, raising speculation that he may have been followed.
The brief timing between the two vehicles has prompted questions about whether Jirongo altered his route deliberately.
Additional intrigue surrounds Jirongo's movements earlier that night after it emerged that he skipped a planned social gathering and was later seen at a Nairobi restaurant in a meeting with senior political figures.
Authorities continue to piece together the final hours of his life as questions persist over what truly happened moments before the fatal crash.
