Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has dismissed claims that the United Opposition is grappling with internal divisions. He described the narrative as a deliberate political strategy meant to weaken the coalition.
Speaking during a television interview, Matiang’i said the opposition remains solid and focused. He insisted there are no cracks threatening the unity of the alliance.
The Jubilee deputy party leader argued that reports of factional meetings are being misrepresented. He said leaders meeting separately should not be confused with political fallout.
Matiang’i explained that coalition members are still building working relationships. He noted that many leaders are engaging closely for the first time.
According to him, consultations and informal meetings are essential at this stage. He said they help strengthen trust and coordination within the opposition.
He firmly rejected assertions that the United Opposition has splinter groups. Matiang’i said all partners remain committed to a shared political vision.
The former CS accused the state of funding propaganda aimed at creating suspicion among opposition leaders. He added that such tactics would not derail their plans.
Matiang’i cited recent visits to key opposition figures as proof of unity. These included engagements with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
He said these interactions were intentional and symbolic. They were meant to demonstrate solidarity and mutual respect among leaders.
Matiang’i noted that opposition leaders regularly interact in different settings. He said such flexibility should be seen as strength, not weakness.
Claims of disunity have intensified following recent by-elections. Some leaders have questioned Jubilee’s role during the contests.
Matiang’i maintained that the opposition understands its political path. He said unity remains firm as the coalition prepares for future engagements.
