Matiangi's Close Ally Speaks After Meeting Ruto Today, Backs Ruto's Re-Election Bid

Gusii leader Onkendi Jonah Ondieki has announced his support for President William Ruto after a meeting at State House in Nairobi.

The former ODM aspirant for Bonchari said the engagement shaped his decision to work with the government. He shared the message through a detailed public statement.

Ondieki described the invitation to State House as a sign of trust and recognition. He said he consulted party leaders before attending the meeting.

According to him talking to the President on matters affecting citizens goes beyond party lines and reflects national responsibility.

The outspoken leader said he has spent months reflecting on the future of the Gusii region and the needs of Bonchari residents.

He noted that leaders must make choices that deliver results and development. He added that silence and indecision only delay progress.

Ondieki revealed he had previously supported another presidential hopeful in good faith. He said that support was neither respected nor acknowledged.

This experience pushed him to rethink his political direction and expectations from leadership.

He stated that leadership must involve communication and accountability. Ondieki argued that working in an environment where supporters are ignored is neither sustainable nor honest. He claimed many leaders share the same frustrations but fear speaking openly.

Based on these concerns he declared his decision to back President Ruto. He was clear that his support is not blind or unconditional.

He promised to defend the Constitution and speak out against any form of injustice or abuse of power.

Ondieki stressed that loyalty to the country must come before loyalty to individuals. He said national values and the rule of law should guide all leaders. He urged Kenyans to reject politics driven by fear and ethnic divisions.

The leader called on his supporters to embrace dialogue and unity. He encouraged them to focus on development and nation building. He warned against emotional politics that create conflict instead of solutions.

His move comes as political activity rises in the Gusii region ahead of the 2027 elections.

Former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i is seen as a key influence in the area. President Ruto has also intensified efforts to win support there.

Ondieki is a United States based businessman who contested the Bonchari seat in 2022 and finished second.

His decision is viewed as a major signal of changing political alignments in Kisii and Nyamira counties.
