On Saturday, it was a big setback to President William Ruto after MP Ndindi Nyoro, who supported him during the 2022 elections, publicly ditched him and joined the opposition camp.
In a statement, Nyoro revealed that in the 2027 elections, he will not support President William Ruto.
"I will not back him in 2027. I am among the leaders who are pushing for his defeat because Kenyans deserve better leadership," he said, emphasizing his break from Ruto's camp.
He also criticized President Ruto for ignoring the grievances of Kenyans for a long period.
"Ruto has not shown any sign that he will fulfill the promises he made to the people who elected him.
Kenyans are suffering, yet their concerns are ignored," Nyoro added, pointing out what he sees as failures in leadership.
According to Nyoro, Ruto’s win in 2022 was mostly by luck.
"The politics and manifestos he used during that time were silly. People were misled by empty promises, but now the truth is clear," he stated, questioning the effectiveness of Ruto’s governance so far.
He went on to say that he will work closely with opposition leaders to ensure that in 2027, Kenyans get true leadership.
"We are committed to giving Kenyans the leadership they deserve. Together with other opposition figures, we will make sure that the next government listens to the people and delivers real change," Nyoro added.
However, not all leaders are abandoning Ruto. Several politicians in the government, including Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, have declared their support for President Ruto.
They continue to urge Kenyans to vote for him again in the 2027 elections, highlighting the divided political scene ahead of the polls.
