What's Reportedly Going on in TZ Police Stations Despite Samia's Claim to Have Pardoned Protesters

Tanzania's main opposition party, CHADEMA, has claimed that President Samia Suluhu's government is doing the direct opposite of what it is trying to make the world believe.

Through it's Director of Communications, Brenda Rupiah, CHADEMA has claimed that despite Samia's calls for reconciliation, her government is secretly hunting down critics.

The party says that the crackdown against opposition politicians is ongoing, with members continuing to go missing, with those arrested earlier remaining in held in unknown places.

"The police force continues to hunt for others in various areas. Their arrests have been carried out without following legal procedures, often without clear reasons, and without giving them the opportunity to contact their families or access to their lawyers," the party says.

It also claims that most of the people arrested in line with the recent protests continue to be held in police stations without being processed for prosecution.

This is despite Samia's recent claim to have pardoned a number of the suspects, ordering the Directorate of Public Prosecution to gauge their alleged crimes and withdraw charges against petty offenders.
