Sifuna Speaks After Boyd Were, Moses Omondi & Harrison Kombe Victories In Yesterday's By Elections

ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna has praised his party’s campaign teams after ODM candidates swept several key by elections, saying the victories show the party’s strength even at a time when national politics appears divided and unpredictable.

His message on X congratulated the winners from Kasipul, Ugunja, Magarini and Nanam Ward, drawing excitement from supporters who viewed the results as a renewed sign of ODM’s resilience across different regions.

In Kasipul Constituency, Boyd Were Ong’ondo secured a wide victory after gathering 16,819 votes against Philip Aroko who managed 8,476 votes, closing a heated race that attracted thousands of voters despite the long distance between polling stations and homesteads.

The returning officer Rebecca Abwaku announced the final tally, and many residents said the win reflected strong loyalty to ODM and the legacy left behind by Boyd Were’s father who served the area with great influence.

The by election in Ugunja also ended in an easy victory for ODM after Moses Omondi scored 9,227 votes while his closest competitor from the Wiper Party trailed far behind with only 1,819 votes, giving ODM another comfortable hold in Siaya County.

Omondi said the people had chosen a development focused path and promised to work closely with local communities to address problems linked to farming, education and the rural economy that continues to strain many households.

At the Coast, tension marked the Magarini race where Harrison Kombe won after a competitive contest that saw early results from several polling stations give him a steady lead that never faded.

The atmosphere grew chaotic in some areas as leaders accused each other of illegal activities, but residents eventually celebrated Kombe’s declaration, saying the community needed fresh energy to confront insecurity and economic hardship that have weakened local opportunities for young people.

In Turkana West, ODM and UDA supporters waited for clarity after rival claims emerged about the final tally in Nanam Ward where Reverend Cosmas Longor Napeikar was credited with 1,543 votes by several IEBC aligned updates.

Sifuna still celebrated his party’s effort and insisted that ODM had performed strongly even in tough regions, pointing out that the overall victories showed a growing hunger for change among voters who want stable leadership.
