Siaya Governor James Orengo has said that the ODM party must have it's own presidential candidate in the 2027 general election.
He has lashed out at ODM members advocating for the party to join President William Ruto's camp and support his reelection bid, terming them cowards.
The county chief has pointed out that such a move would kill ODM, adding that the party's collaboration with Ruto's government is not a legal union.
Speaking at the party's youth convention in Mombasa on Friday, he claimed that even the late Raila Odinga wouldn't support such, hence his decision to properly build up the party before death.
According to Orengo, Raila wanted ODM to remain a standalone outfit and constructed it to be strong enough to always have a candidate.
"Raila was so clever that he did not leave us just to be in the broad-based (government), he wanted to be the voice of the people and that's why ODM is leading the forces within the National Assembly and the Senate," he is quoted by Citizen Digital.
