Maraga Stun Opposition Leaders After Revealing Exactly Who He Might Partner With Ahead of 2027

Former Chief Justice and 2027 presidential hopeful David Maraga has stirred the political waters majorly in opposition by revealing a potential alliance with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of the next general elections.

In an interview with Obinna TV Extra on Monday, Maraga said he is open to collaborating with Kalonzo, citing their long-standing friendship and shared history as law classmates at the University of Nairobi.

“Mr Kalonzo is a good man. We attended the same university, so there is mutual respect. I am open to working with him, but only if he embraces my vision for the country,” Maraga noted.

The former chief justice outlined that any partnership would be conditional on full alignment with his core principles, including upholding the rule of law, fighting corruption, and empowering the youth.

“If he comes and embraces my vision, we will work together. As the presidential flag bearer, others must rally behind me,” he added.

Maraga also commented on the possibility of working with former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, stating that any collaboration would require Matiang’i to meet his “irreducible minimums,” particularly regarding governance values and anti-corruption measures.

However, Maraga was unequivocal about President William Ruto, ruling out any collaboration.

“Our values are incompatible, and our paths will never align,” he said.

Maraga further explained that his political ambition was fueled by the 2024 Gen Z-led protests against the Finance Bill, which he described as a wake-up call for leaders to address youth concerns.

He emphasized that supporting the younger generation would remain central to his campaign.

“The youth cried out for justice and opportunity. As an elder, I cannot sit idle while they suffer,” Maraga stated, signaling a campaign that will place youth issues and governance reform at the forefront.

With Maraga’s declaration, the 2027 race is already witnessing early strategic alignments, leaving opposition leaders recalibrating their political calculations.
