Gen Z Leader Kasmuel McOure Confronts ODM SG Sifuna Over ‘One Term’ Chant

A fresh wave of internal tension has hit the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after outspoken Gen Z leader and popular youth figure Kasmuel McOure publicly called out the party’s Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, for chanting the opposition slogan “one term” during recent public events.

In a strongly worded statement shared across his social media platforms on Sunday, November 30, 2025, Kasmuel accused Sifuna of promoting messages that contradict the party’s long-standing ideology. 

According to him, the slogan being used by the Secretary General represents a political formation that supposedly undermines the very people ODM claims to defend.

Kasmuel argued that leaders holding senior positions must demonstrate discipline and loyalty to party principles, especially at a time when ODM is undergoing major internal restructuring. 

“If our SG can proudly chant a slogan that stands in direct contradiction to our ideological persuasion, then we are duty-bound to call out his duplicity,” he stated.

The youth leader further accused Sifuna of presenting his personal opinions as official party positions. 

According to Kasmuel, ODM has witnessed several instances in recent months where Sifuna’s public statements differed from the party’s collective agreements. He warned that such behaviour could widen divisions within the movement.

Kasmuel also revisited the events of the ODM 20th anniversary celebration held in Mombasa, where he claims Sifuna mishandled the recognition of senior party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga.

He alleged that Sifuna worked with individuals who tried to embarrass Dr. Oburu by attempting to sway the crowd during the event. 

“Where he should have upheld and elevated Dr. Oburu’s dignity, he instead chose confrontation,” Kasmuel wrote.

The Gen Z activist further accused the Secretary General of distancing himself from crucial ODM activities, including important campaign engagements. 

He claimed that Sifuna had on several occasions failed to attend key events that required the presence of top party officials. 

According to Kasmuel, the youth are growing increasingly dissatisfied with what they perceive as a lack of consistency from the SG.

In his statement, Kasmuel also expressed concern over what he termed as Sifuna’s willingness to associate with individuals accused of undermining the broad-based cooperation between ODM and the Kenya Kwanza government. 

He claimed that the Secretary General had been openly criticising supporters who advocate for dialogue and partnership, despite the party officially acknowledging the need for structured engagement.

Kasmuel insisted that ODM needs strong leadership rooted in discipline, clarity, and respect for the party’s history. 

He called on Sifuna to either align himself fully with the party’s official direction or step aside to allow someone capable of safeguarding its integrity. 

“ODM youth shall continue calling out the SG and will not allow him to undermine the party,” he warned.

While Sifuna has not officially responded to the accusations, the public confrontation has sparked widespread debate within ODM circles. 

Some party members argue that the youth leader’s criticism is justified, while others see it as a sign of rising generational friction within the movement.
