Former Presidential Economic Advisor Moses Kuria has stirred heated debate online following his emotional reaction to the late Raila Odinga’s treatment in India.
Kuria, in a post shared on his X account, expressed deep frustration and disbelief over the use of Ayurvedic medicine — the traditional Indian healing practice — in treating the former Prime Minister before his death.
“I need a lot of convincing to accept that Ayurvedic is a branch of modern medicine. My heart is burning with rage. But what do I know about medicine other than as a patient? I am willing to be persuaded,” Kuria wrote.
The statement has since triggered mixed reactions among Kenyans, with some supporting his skepticism while others defended the centuries-old medical system.
Many argued that Ayurveda, though traditional, has helped millions globally and should not be dismissed outright.
Others, however, questioned why a prominent figure like Raila would opt for non-conventional treatment instead of advanced modern care.
Raila was reportedly undergoing Ayurvedic therapy at the Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital & Panchakarma Centre in Kerala, India.
The treatment focused on improving his general health and managing chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.
He passed away after suffering cardiac arrest during a morning walk within the facility.
Kuria’s remarks reflect a broader debate in Kenya about the balance between traditional and modern medicine.
Some critics say the country’s elite often seek alternative therapies abroad, raising questions about the quality and trustworthiness of local healthcare systems.
As the nation mourns Raila Odinga, Kuria’s post has reignited conversations not only about the late leader’s final days but also about the credibility and place of traditional healing in modern medical practice.
