Video Of Mt Kenya Governor Allegedly Celebrating Raila’s Death Goes Viral, Kenyans React

A storm has erupted online after a video emerged allegedly showing Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga appearing to celebrate the death of ODM boss and Broad-Based Government partner Raila Odinga.

The clip, which has been widely shared across social media platforms, has triggered outrage among Kenyans, many of whom have condemned the governor’s remarks as disrespectful and unbecoming of a national leader.

In the viral video, Kahiga is accused of making statements perceived as mocking Raila’s passing, a move that has now drawn sharp criticism from the late leader’s supporters.

Political commentator JM Miano reacted strongly, accusing the governor of forgetting Raila’s immense contribution to Kenya’s democracy and freedom. Watch the video here.

Miano said it was ironic for anyone to ridicule Raila’s death while enjoying the very freedoms he fought for over the years.

He further noted that Raila was a visionary who had strategically positioned his allies to continue championing the values of justice, unity, and reform long after his time.

Within ODM circles, leaders have expressed disappointment, terming the alleged remarks as not only offensive but also an attempt to water down Raila’s legacy.

Party insiders have hinted that the comments could reignite political tension between the Broad-Based Government partners and key opposition figures allied to the late former Prime Minister.

Observers believe the incident could deepen mistrust between leaders from Mt Kenya and Raila’s traditional support base in Nyanza, just as the country continues to reflect on his lifelong political journey.

To many Kenyans, Raila Odinga was more than a politician, he was a symbol of resilience, sacrifice, and courage in the fight for multi-party democracy.

His influence, they say, will continue to shape Kenya’s political discourse for years to come.
