The incident has left many Kenyans talking online, with mixed opinions about who was right and who was wrong.
According to details seen by Pulse News, the man had agreed to host the lady after chatting for a while. They planned to meet and even cook together.
To facilitate her transport, he sent her KSh 890. However, once she received the money, she went silent and later blocked him.
Feeling frustrated, the man decided to contact his mobile money service provider to report the case and request a reversal.
Surprisingly, the company acted quickly and refunded him the full amount the following day.
The excited man later shared screenshots of the messages, saying, “Her account was frozen, and I got my money back.”
The post quickly went viral, with thousands of reactions and comments. Some netizens praised the man for teaching the woman a lesson, saying it would discourage others from taking advantage of men’s kindness.
Others, however, felt his actions were petty and unnecessary, arguing that people should give freely without expecting anything in return.
One online user joked, “This is a win for brotherhood. No more free rides for fare eaters,” while another said, “If you send fare, do it willingly. Don’t expect payback in form of visits.”
Speaking to Pulse News, relationship expert Allan Lawrence advised both men and women to act responsibly when it comes to financial matters in dating.
He noted that women should be financially independent to avoid embarrassment or control from men.
“If a man finances your lifestyle, he might feel entitled to you. Women need to be empowered so that no one can use money to manipulate or disrespect them,” he said.
Lawrence also added that men can show generosity without expecting anything in return.
“Being kind doesn’t always mean expecting a reward. Treat women with respect, just like you would treat your sister or mother,” he added.
