Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has once again put Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on the spot, accusing him of secretly working to weaken the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as the country heads towards the 2027 elections.
In a strong statement shared on Saturday, Alai said Sifuna’s recent moves are not helping the party but instead making it lose ground in key political spaces.
He argued that the ODM Secretary General is playing into the hands of leaders outside the party, including those close to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
According to Alai, ODM had been positioning itself to play a major role in future political negotiations.
He claimed the party was in line to front a candidate for the deputy president position in 2027.
However, he believes that chance is slipping away as Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has grown in influence and may secure President William Ruto’s trust as a running mate.
“ODM was to be strong enough to negotiate for deputy president, but that opportunity is almost gone.
Kindiki has proved himself, and the President may not see the need to look elsewhere,” Alai warned.
The Kileleshwa MCA also criticized Sifuna over Nairobi politics, saying the senator has failed to hold Governor Johnson Sakaja accountable.
He said many Nairobi residents have been complaining about county leadership, yet Sifuna has remained silent instead of providing oversight.
Alai suggested this silence could cost ODM the chance of taking control of the capital in 2027.
“ODM should have been preparing to secure Nairobi governorship, but Sifuna’s approach has made the party look unreliable in city politics,” he added.
Alai further questioned Sifuna’s political alliances, including his open association with leaders from rival camps.
He wondered why the party has not taken steps to replace him as secretary general despite ongoing concerns about his loyalty.
While some ODM members continue to demand Sifuna’s resignation, the senator has dismissed such calls and insists he is committed to keeping President Ruto out of office for a second term.
Alai’s latest remarks highlight the growing tension within ODM as leaders jostle for influence ahead of 2027.
