President William Ruto has come to the aid of the family of Susan Nabwire, a woman who lost her life in a shocking case of domestic violence in Pipeline, Nairobi.
Ruto contributed Ksh 1 million, money that will be placed in a trust fund to secure the education of Nabwire’s one-year-old daughter.
The announcement was made in Busia during Nabwire’s burial on Saturday, September 13.
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris delivered the message on behalf of the President, telling mourners that the donation would safeguard the future of the young girl left behind.
“This money is for the child’s education, but justice must also be pursued,” she said.
Passaris also appealed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to hasten their work on the case.
She revealed that the house help, who was also assaulted on the same night, is living in fear, making her protection urgent.
“The family cannot find closure if investigations drag on. Survivors and witnesses deserve safety,” Passaris added.
Other leaders present included Busia Woman Representative Catherine Amayo, PS for Gender Anne Wang’ombe, PS Economic Planning and Treasury Bonface Makokha, and Kajiado Woman Representative Leah Sankaire.
Together, they consoled the grieving family while calling for firm action against gender-based violence.
According to details shared at the funeral, Nabwire’s husband, a 44-year-old former police officer, launched the fatal attack after demanding access to her phone and mobile money account.
He is reported to have used an axe and rope in the assault before stabbing her. After killing her, he turned on the house help, who survived sexual assault.
The suspect later fled the scene, leaving the body of his wife locked in the house alongside the house help and their child.
He was arrested on August 26 and remains in custody at Embakasi Police Station as investigations continue.
The President’s donation provides immediate relief to the family, but leaders emphasized that financial help cannot replace justice.
They urged investigators to act quickly and ensure the suspect faces the full force of the law.
