His wife, Christine Kyengo, shared the painful story of her husband’s last day and the events leading to his death.
Christine recalled that Sammy left home on September 6, heading to work at the Talanta Stadium construction site. He had planned to request his unpaid wages before quitting his job, as the contractor had not paid workers since July.
“He told me he was going to work to ask for his pay and then resign. But he never returned,” Christine said, tears streaming down her face.
The distraught wife said she received no information from the construction management and had to search for him herself.
Her worst fears were confirmed when she found Sammy’s lifeless body behind the terraces under construction.
“His head was swollen badly. It was clear he had suffered serious injuries,” she said.
A casual labourer first discovered the body while clearing a room for plastering. Sammy was found in what appeared to be a water sump, floating lifelessly.
Fellow workers expressed shock and fear over the incident, questioning safety and accountability at the construction site.
Victor Walumbe, a close friend and colleague of Sammy, described him as a diligent man who kept to himself and worked honestly.
“He just wanted to earn his pay fairly. I pray the police find those responsible and ensure justice for him and his family,” Walumbe said.
The couple’s young son expressed deep sorrow at losing a father who had always supported him, paying his school fees, transport, and rent.
The news has left the family struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
Police were called to the scene and moved Sammy’s body to City Mortuary as investigations began.
The body showed injuries to the head and neck, with blood reportedly oozing from the nose and mouth.
Authorities have promised a thorough investigation to determine the cause of death and identify those responsible.
