“Sisi Tunasema Tutam, Hata Kama Hatutakuwa Na Kura, Tutamwibia, Hio Si Siri” — Wajir Woman Rep Sparks Outrage Over Open Threat to Steal Votes for President Ruto in 2027

Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Abdi Jehow has shocked Kenyans after publicly stating that leaders from North Eastern Kenya are ready to steal votes for President William Ruto in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

Speaking at a public event in Wajir on Saturday, July 12, 2025, Jehow boldly declared in Swahili, “Sisi wabunge wa North Eastern maneno ya President, tunasema ‘tutam’, hata kama hatutakuwa na votes, tutamwibia… hio si siri.” (Translation: “We, MPs from North Eastern, support the President. Even if we don’t have the votes, we will steal them for him… that’s no secret.”)

She further brushed off concerns over the region’s low voter registration, adding that they would find a way to deliver victory regardless.

“Sisi tunangoja debe iletwe, hata kama hatutakuwa na votes, sisi maneyetu ni mafupi,” she added, suggesting readiness to use unfair means.

Her comments have triggered strong backlash from Kenyans across the country. Many citizens expressed their anger on social media, accusing her of encouraging electoral fraud and undermining democracy.

Civil society groups and human rights activists have condemned the remarks, calling them reckless and dangerous.

Several organizations have demanded that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) investigate Jehow and take immediate action.

According to critics, her words could incite tension and violence, especially in a country with a history of post-election conflict.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki was in Kuria East, Migori County, where he addressed similar fears.

Kindiki dismissed allegations that the Kenya Kwanza administration plans to rig the 2027 elections. He assured Kenyans that the IEBC is an independent institution that cannot be manipulated.

“Our opponents are already panicking and blackmailing the IEBC. Commissioners are referees; they cannot favour anyone,” Kindiki said.

He further emphasized that President Ruto’s administration intends to seek re-election based on its development record and service delivery, not through cheating.
