President William Ruto has asked young people in Kenya to stay away from leaders who only want to use them for their own political interests.
While speaking at State House, Nairobi, during a meeting with Nairobi United Football Club, Ruto urged the youth—especially Gen Z—not to be misled by people he called “visionless.”
“It breaks my heart when people who have no plan for young people take them to the streets, misuse them, and we end up with violence, rape, and loss of property,” Ruto said.
“They have no real ideas. They only talk about Gen Z to use them. Shame on them.”
His comments come at a time when many young Kenyans have been actively participating in protests across the country.
Some of these demonstrations have turned violent, leading to deaths and destruction of businesses
Ruto told the youth that they have great power to shape the future, but only if they stay focused and avoid being misused by politicians.
He reminded them that his government is already working to support them through job creation, education, and business opportunities.
“We have helped over 400,000 Kenyans get jobs abroad in the last two years,” he said.
“And we are fighting fake agents so that no one takes advantage of our youth.”
He asked job seekers to always check with the National Employment Authority (NEA) before applying for jobs overseas.
“Don’t trust random people offering jobs. Go to NEA or visit their website to find real opportunities,” he advised.
Ruto also praised Kenyan youth for being hardworking, smart, and globally respected. He said the country’s future depends on young people choosing peace, hard work, and progress over violence and confusion.
“There are many opportunities in this country and outside. You can grow, you can succeed, but you must refuse to be used,” Ruto said.
“We are here to help you, not to harm you.”
He ended his message with a strong appeal:
“Let’s work together. Say no to leaders with no vision. Let’s build a future where young people are not just used—they are supported, respected, and empowered.”
His speech was filled with emotion, hope, and a challenge for the youth to think beyond the streets and focus on building better lives.
