Residents of Kolal-Nyasita village in Siaya County are in shock after a 24-year-old man, Alloyce Ochieng, allegedly killed his estranged wife, Laurine Ochieng, in a violent attack.
The tragic incident unfolded early on Thursday, when Laurine went to Alloyce's home around 8 a.m. to pick up their young daughter, accompanied by her sister and a boda boda operator.
Alloyce greeted Laurine calmly and invited her to his mother’s house to discuss their relationship issues.
According to David Otieno, a neighbor, once inside the house, Alloyce asked his mother to leave so that he and Laurine could speak privately.
However, moments later, Alloyce locked the door and began attacking Laurine with a machete. Her screams could be heard by those nearby, but despite their desperate pleas, Alloyce continued his violent assault.
Pastor Musa Otieno Okech, another local resident, recounted the harrowing events, explaining that Alloyce's mother and other neighbors tried to intervene, but their efforts were in vain.
It was only after realizing that Laurine was dead that Alloyce opened the door and fled the scene.
The police were quickly informed of the incident, and Siaya Sub-County Police Commander Everline Cherotich confirmed that authorities are actively pursuing Alloyce.
Meanwhile, Laurine's relatives, deeply angered by the brutal murder, stormed Alloyce’s home, setting it ablaze.
They also set fire to his mother’s house before heading to the mortuary where Laurine’s body was taken for examination.
The tragedy has shaken the local community, and people are now calling for an end to domestic violence.
Janet Atieno, a neighbor, urged couples to resolve their issues peacefully rather than resorting to violence.
She emphasized that "violence only leaves pain and destruction" and encouraged couples to seek help or mediation in times of conflict.
