CNN journalist Larry Madowo sparked debate online after criticising the government over the condition of the podium used by President William Ruto while hosting French President Emmanuel Macron during the Africa Forward Summit at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.
Larry questioned why the president was using a faded and worn-out podium while welcoming international guests, saying the situation was embarrassing for the country.
His remarks quickly attracted reactions from Kenyans on social media, with many admitting they had not initially noticed the issue until he pointed it out.
Others defended the organisers, arguing there was little time to refurbish the podium before the summit.
The summit remains significant as Kenya became the first English-speaking African country to host the France-Africa Summit.
While some leaders praised the event as an opportunity to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties between Africa and France, critics argued it could expand French influence in African affairs.
