Odoyo Owidi Reacts to the Ongoing Cold War Between Wanga and Millie Odhiambo

Political analyst and commentator Odoyo Owidi has waded into the escalating tensions within ODM in Nyanza, offering a sharp take on the frosty relationship between Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo Mabona.

As the party grapples with internal rifts following Raila Odinga’s passing, zoning disputes, and shifting alliances ahead of 2027, Owidi’s latest remarks have ignited fresh debate.

In recent statements and social media posts, Owidi accused Governor Wanga of deploying “attack dogs” against perceived opponents, including long-time Homa Bay politician Millie Odhiambo.

He cautioned that the habit of targeting anyone who disagrees with Wanga reflects weakness rather than strength.

“We have lived in Homa Bay with Millie Mabona for many years and know her well,” Owidi posted on April 30, 2026.

He warned that Wanga’s “dirtiest closet” could invite damaging personal attacks if the aggression continues, urging restraint out of decency.

The cold war traces back to deeper ODM fissures over “zoning” an apparent strategy to consolidate influence in party strongholds and positioning for the post-Raila era.

Millie Odhiambo has publicly criticized zoning efforts linked to Oburu Odinga and Gladys Wanga, siding with embattled ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and dismissing claims that her stance stems from jealousy toward the governor.

She has even embraced the hashtag #IamJealousOfWanga to mock critics. Wanga, on the other hand, has been accused of prioritizing personal and family interests, including campaigning for her brother while allegedly sidelining rivals in Homa Bay.

Owidi has gone further, portraying Wanga as obsessed with becoming the “Luo Queenpin” and using Luo identity for ego rather than collective good.

He questioned her loyalty to broader party or national agendas, suggesting she would not sacrifice her gubernatorial seat for higher ambitions like a presidential running mate.

Arnold Maliba, a political commentator has stated that the inside war between Gladys Wanga and Millie Odhiambo. It is a clear indication of what is happening between UDA and ODM.

"There is a disagreement between ODM party members and UDA. And hence this being the exact reason why Millie Odhiambo is confronting Wanga."
