The Ministry of Education has recommended disciplinary action against Margaret Njeru over an alleged unauthorised increase in school fees at Alliance Girls High School.
According to the ministry, the school reportedly raised fees from the approved Sh53,558 to Sh120,179 without authorisation from relevant education authorities.
The matter has since sparked concern among parents and education stakeholders over the rising cost of education in national schools.
The ministry is now calling on the Teachers Service Commission to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the principal for allegedly violating government guidelines on school fees.
Officials said all public schools are required to adhere strictly to approved fee structures and must seek clearance before making any adjustments.
The ministry warned that school heads found imposing illegal levies or unapproved charges risk facing disciplinary measures.
The controversy has reignited debate over the financial burden facing parents, especially amid the high cost of living and increasing demands in schools.
Parents and education activists are now demanding greater transparency and accountability in school financial management.
The Teachers Service Commission is yet to publicly comment on the ministry’s recommendation.
