"Kwani Alikuwa wapi Tukiteseka?" Family Declines to Bury Father After Years of Absence

A quiet village burial has drawn attention after a family refused to take part in laying their father to rest, saying he stopped being part of their lives many years ago.

The man is said to have left his wife and five children 26 years ago. Since then, the family struggled on their own, with the mother raising the children under difficult conditions.

When news of his death reached them, the response was firm. The children, now adults in their 30s and 40s, reportedly told relatives that their father “died” the day he abandoned them.

The first-born son, an engineer working with Kenya Power and Lighting Company, declined all calls from extended family members.

He is said to have recalled painful moments from their childhood, including times when their mother faced danger while looking for school fees around Koinange Street.

Their mother also spoke openly. She said she had already moved on from the man who left them behind. According to her, those who shared his life after he left should now take responsibility for his burial.

Local leaders were not pleased with the situation. The area chief reportedly expressed concern over the family’s refusal to forgive, saying such matters should be handled with unity.

Despite the tension, the burial went on late at night. Only a few people attended, including close relatives and local officials. The ceremony was brief and quiet.

The story has sparked mixed reactions among community members. Some understand the family’s pain, while others feel that forgiveness remains important, even after many years.
