Panic as Missing Body Of Herdsboy Found Stashed In a Sack And Dumped in a Thicket in Ulanda

Tragedy struck the Ulanda area in Siaya County after the body of a missing herdsboy, Ewoi Ochola, was discovered stashed in a sack and dumped in a thicket. 

The young boy, who had been reported missing on July 8, 2025, was found dead after more than four years of uncertainty surrounding his disappearance.

According to Jack Opiyo, the grim discovery was made by two locals who were passing by the thicket. 

They were reportedly alerted by a foul odour emanating from the area, which prompted them to investigate further. 

Upon inspection, they found Ewoi’s badly decomposed body hidden inside a sack. The assistant chief immediately notified police officers, who moved the body to the Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary for further examination.

“The cause of his death still remains unclear. He was a kind person who never had grudges with anyone. We are investigating,” said Jack Opiyo, expressing shock at the horrific manner in which Ewoi’s body was discovered.

The death of Ewoi Ochola has sparked concern among residents of Ulanda and surrounding areas, who described the herdsboy as gentle and well-liked in the community. 

Local authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that every effort will be made to uncover the circumstances surrounding the boy’s untimely death.

This development comes just three weeks after two children were rescued following a kidnapping incident in the area. The suspects in that case remain in custody at the Kopolo Police Post. 

Authorities have urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity in the community to prevent further tragedies.

While the police continue to investigate, residents are calling for stricter security measures in the area, particularly in remote and forested locations where young children and herdsboys often spend time tending livestock. 

The incident has reignited discussions on community safety and the need for increased vigilance by both local leaders and law enforcement.

Ewoi’s family, friends, and the wider community are mourning the loss of the young boy, while authorities work to piece together what happened between his disappearance in 2021 and the recent discovery of his body. 

The investigation is expected to involve forensic analysis to determine the exact cause of death and whether criminal activity was involved.
