The rally, which attracted thousands of residents from Nyeri County and neighboring regions, caused heavy traffic snarl-ups as supporters thronged the town center to catch a glimpse of the former DP. Addressing the gathering, Mr Gachagua criticized the current administration, accusing it of neglecting the economic needs of ordinary Kenyans. He said rising taxes, the high cost of living, and unemployment had pushed citizens to the brink, calling for a united opposition to challenge what he termed as failed leadership.
The former deputy president urged opposition leaders to put aside personal differences and form a strong coalition that reflects the will of the people. According to him, unity is key to restoring public confidence and safeguarding democracy ahead of future elections.
Several opposition figures allied to Gachagua echoed his sentiments, promising to mobilize grassroots support across the Mount Kenya region and beyond. They described the Karatina rally as a clear message that the political ground is shifting.
Residents who attended the rally expressed mixed reactions. While supporters praised Gachagua for “speaking boldly,” others cautioned leaders against endless political rallies, urging them to focus on solutions that improve livelihoods.
Security officers were deployed around the town to maintain order, and no major incidents were reported.
