Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Kioni appealed to Kalonzo, who leads the Wiper Party, to use his influence as a senior Azimio la Umoja coalition leader to bring fractious ODM factions together.
“ODM is still in Azimio, the only legally registered coalition that we are all members of,” Kioni said, urging Kalonzo to either take the lead or convene other Azimio principals for talks on salvaging Kenya’s oldest opposition party.
Kioni pointed out that Raila Odinga, who led ODM for more than two decades, stood in solidarity with Jubilee during its internal challenges in 2023 even personally encouraging him to persevere.
He said this creates a moral obligation for Jubilee to now reciprocate by supporting ODM amid its current struggle.
Kioni also expressed his readiness to publicly back the faction of ODM leaders aligned with Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, EALA MP Winnie Odinga, Godfrey Osotsi and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, saying he will join them in their next rally in solidarity.
