Manyatta MP Mukunji Gitonga Responds To Claims Of Ditching Gachagua's DCP Party Ahead Of 2027 Elections

Manyatta Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Gitonga Mukunji, has firmly dismissed swirling rumors and allegations that he is planning to abandon the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The speculation gained traction amid recent high-profile defections from the DCP, including Juja MP George Koimburi, who publicly quit the party citing claims of betrayal and internal disagreements.

Reports and social media chatter suggested Mukunji long viewed as a close ally of Gachagua might follow suit, with some sources even claiming senior government figures like Moses Kuria had predicted his imminent move to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

However, MP Mukunji addressed the propaganda head-on, issuing a strong statement reaffirming his loyalty to the DCP and its leader.

In a recent address captured in circulating videos, Mukunji declared:

"I can't join a government that does not listen to people. One that kills GenZs. Nitaendelea kutetea mwananchi. DCP iko imara." (I will continue defending the citizen. DCP is solid.)

He further warned against attempts to lure him away, stating in another clip:

"I will Never Dump Gachagua ahead 2027!!" a direct rebuttal aimed at figures like Moses Kuria who had publicly suggested Mukunji was next in line for defection.

The MP's staunch position comes at a time when DCP is navigating challenges in consolidating its support base in Mt. Kenya and beyond, following its formation in 2025 as a vehicle for Gachagua's political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general election.

Mukunji has been a key figure in the party, previously leading campaigns and consultative meetings for DCP aspirants in the region.
