Gathoni Wamuchomba Sparks Mixed Reactions After She Stated the Following About Gachagua's Bulletproof Gear

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has launched a sharp public attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of double standards in the heated debate over violence and disruptions in places of worship.

In a strongly worded post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Wamuchomba questioned Gachagua’s claims that he has no access to weapons or security equipment, while at the same time appearing in public wearing heavy protective gear.

Referencing a widely circulated photo of Gachagua donning a bulletproof vest and tactical helmet, the legislator sarcastically asked whether the items were purchased from Gikomba market, the same place Gachagua has previously cited when dismissing allegations that he could access tear gas, guns, or bullets.

“You say tear gas, guns and bullets are not sold in Gikomba, and I agree,” Wamuchomba wrote. “So did you also buy this bulletproof jacket and helmet there? If yes,

She accompanied the post with the hashtag #StopChurchViolence, reinforcing her message against the disruption of worship services.

Wamuchomba’s remarks come amid repeated incidents in which church services attended by Gachagua have descended into chaos, with reports of teargas, heavy police presence, and fleeing congregants in different parts of the country.

In earlier incidents, including the PCEA Kariobangi North episode in late 2025, Wamuchomba herself had condemned security agencies for what she described as excessive force, demanding apologies after worshippers, including children, were affected.

Her latest statement, however, appears to turn the spotlight on Gachagua, suggesting that his visible security precautions contradict his claims of innocence and lack of access to tools associated with violence.

The exchange highlights widening cracks within Mt Kenya politics, where Wamuchomba has increasingly distanced herself from Gachagua. Despite their past alignment, she declined to join his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) and has previously accused him of political intimidation.

Online reactions to her post have been sharply divided. Supporters applauded her for demanding consistency and accountability, while critics dismissed the remarks as part of a growing personal and political feud.
