Speaking to residents on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Omondi announced that Charles Kiura will contest the Muminji Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in Mbeere North, Embu County. The by-election is scheduled to take place on February 26, 2026.
Omondi described the move as a major milestone in his long-running campaign to push young people into leadership and decision-making positions across the country.
He said Youth 47 was created to challenge traditional politics and give young Kenyans a direct voice in governance.
“This is about creating a new generation of leadership,” Omondi said while addressing residents.
“We want a new kind of Kenya, led by young people with fresh ideas and the courage to bring change.”
The Youth 47 Movement, which was officially launched earlier this week, has committed to supporting youth candidates in all 47 counties.
Omondi has repeatedly stressed that the movement is not just another political party but a grassroots platform aimed at empowering young people at the community level.
During the announcement, Omondi praised Kiura, describing him as a Gen Z leader with energy, ideas, and a strong desire to transform Muminji Ward.

The two later moved around the ward to popularise the candidacy and mobilise residents ahead of the by-election.
Other aspirants affiliated with Youth 47 also spoke during the event. Frank Rawlings urged young Kenyans to register as voters and actively participate in the 2027 General Elections, saying political change can only happen through the ballot.
Another aspirant, Margaret Ndege, said the movement’s main focus is unity among the youth and ensuring young leaders are supported from the grassroots to national level.
Although best known for comedy, Eric Omondi has been deeply involved in social and political activism for years.

He gained national attention during the 2024 protests against the finance bill, when he organised demonstrations involving small-scale traders, including the now-famous protest where ‘Mama Mboga’ poured vegetables along Parliament Road.
However, the launch of an MCA candidate marks Omondi’s first direct entry into electoral politics as the leader of an organised political movement.
