CS Kipchumba Murkomen Quickly Issues Statement After Gachagua's Attack In Othaya, Questions IG Kanja Over This

A political and security tension is brewing up following an incident at ACK Witima Parish in Othaya, Nyeri County after violence.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who was attending the service, found himself at the center of a chaotic confrontation that involved teargas, disrupted prayers, and the arson of a vehicle within his entourage.

The incident has prompted an immediate and firm response from Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

Taking to social media to address the escalating tension, Murkomen has expressed great concern" over the breach of peace, emphasizing that violence has no place in society and certainly not within the hallowed walls of a church.

Murkomen’s statement isn't just a generic condemnation, it was a direct call to the highest levels of law enforcement.

He has confirmed that he has already held discussions with the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, demanding that the investigation be handled with the urgency this matter deserves.

The CS has publicly stated that, without fear or favor, targeting both the foot soldiers and the sponsors of the violence must be brought to book.

He has added that the law will take it's course regardless of status, ensuring that political affiliation does not serve as a shield for those breaking the law.

Beyond the immediate security response, the incident raises uncomfortable questions about the safety of public figures and the sanctity of worship in Kenya.

Murkomen has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding the right to lawful assembly and freedom of worship, urging residents of Nyeri to remain calm while the authorities piece together exactly how a church service devolved into a crime scene.

As the smoke clears in Othaya, all eyes are now on IG Kanja to see if the decisive action promised by the government will translate into swift arrests.
