With the ODM, UDA alliance formation almost certain, the latter's party leader has openly began revealing some of the key conditions president William Ruto should meet if their alliance wins the 2027 presidential battle.
Speaking during the Piny Luo cultural event in Migori yesterday, Dr Oburu demanded in Ruto's presence that the cabinet slots and other key state appointments the party will be awarded must be commensurate with the party's electoral strength.
Dr Oburu acknowledged that ODM was awarded few seats in the BroadBased government deal because the party had not fought together with UDA to win the 2022 statehouse race.
"This government we did not form with you. When we strengthen ODM and form the next government with you, you will have to give us more," Oburu averred.
When he took the podium to address, Ruto took note of the demand made by Oburu admitting that past regimes sidelined Nyanza by choosing not to involve it in key development and state appointments.
"We shall correct those historical and development injustices," president William Ruto promised.
However, Ruto also had a condition for the ODM party. According to Ruto, ODM must put its house in order and strengthen-up to enable him work with them.
Ruto's demand that appeared packaged as an advice was occasioned by the current sibling rivalry ongoing in ODM.
While Oburu and Wanga have cleared signalled working with Ruto come 2027, Secretary general Edwin Sifuna and governor James Orengo seem to be rooting for something different.
