Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale Disagrees As Mudavadi Makes This Proposal Ahead of 2027 Election

Kakamega County Senator Boni Khalwale disagrees after Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi proposed a referendum on unresolved constitutional issues in the 2027 election.

Speaking about the upcoming general elections in Kenya, Mudavadi suggested that the 2027 presidential election in Kenya could be an opportunity to address some unresolved constitutional issues through a referendum.

He's proposed that voters could decide on a few key constitutional matters alongside electing their leaders.

"We can use the 2027 presidential election as the first election where we can have some critical constitutional issues that have never been resolved, we can have a referendum going side by side.

If one can vote for 6 people on the ballot paper, I think we are now mature enough to include maybe two or three constitutional issues that can be dealt with so Kenyans can move forward," Musalia Mudavadi said.

His remarks caught the attention of Senator Khalwale, who in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said that Kenya's current priority is not a referendum.

Khalwale also called on the government to include local leaders in plans to relocate residents of Ikolomani from their ancestral homes after the discovery of gold worth KSh 383 billion.
