Lugari constituency has been thrown into mourning following the death of former Member of Parliament and medical doctor Enoch Kibunguchy, whose final moments have now been confirmed to have occurred in Eldoret.
The seventy-two-year-old politician passed away while undergoing treatment Eldoret hospital after a period of illness that had not been publicly disclosed.
His death came barely ten days after the passing of his predecessor in the Lugari parliamentary seat, the late Cyrus Jirongo, marking a painful period for the region.
Kibunguchy served the people of western Kenya with distinction over two terms in the National Assembly.
He first entered Parliament in 2002 after defeating Cyrus Jirongo and held the Lugari seat until 2007.
He later returned to elective politics as the founding Member of Parliament for Likuyani, where he served from 2013 to 2017.
Colleagues and residents have remembered him as a calm and principled leader whose background in medicine shaped his thoughtful approach to leadership.
During his time in Parliament, he focused on development-driven legislation and initiatives aimed at improving healthcare education and infrastructure within his constituency.
Even after leaving office, Kibunguchy remained active in political and civic affairs.
In recent months he had joined the Democratic Action Party of Kenya after leaving Ford Kenya, signalling his continued interest in shaping the political direction of his region ahead of the next general election.
Kibunguchy leaves behind a legacy defined by public service, mentorship and dedication to community development.
His death marks the end of a chapter for Lugari and Likuyani residents who saw him not only as a leader but also as a guide and servant of the people.
