“Don’t Try”: Bad News for Kenyans as Govt Bans This Ahead of Jamhuri Day Celebrations

Nairobi Regional Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo has issued a cautionary message to Kenyans attending the upcoming Jamhuri Day celebrations, urging them to avoid carrying expensive phones or wearing flashy watches.

The advisory, released on Thursday, comes as part of broader security measures aimed at ensuring a safe and incident-free national holiday.

“While we celebrate our nation’s independence, we ask citizens to exercise caution.

Avoid exposing valuables like high-end smartphones or luxury watches, as they can attract unwanted attention,” RC Kitiyo stated.

He emphasized that the directive is not meant to dampen celebrations but to protect attendees from potential theft or opportunistic crimes.

Jamhuri Day, celebrated on December 12, marks Kenya’s independence and is traditionally attended by thousands of Kenyans at various official and community events.

The gatherings are usually vibrant, featuring parades, cultural displays, and speeches from government leaders. However, with large crowds comes increased risk, particularly in busy urban areas like Nairobi.

Security agencies, including the National Police Service, have promised heightened vigilance during the festivities, with officers deployed at key venues and along major routes.

RC Kitiyo encouraged citizens to report suspicious behavior immediately and to prioritize personal safety over showing off expensive items.

Experts say such advisories are common in large public events globally, especially during national celebrations where crowds are dense and pickpocketing or snatching incidents are more likely.

By following these precautions, attendees can enjoy the celebrations without putting themselves at unnecessary risk.

As Nairobi prepares for Jamhuri Day, authorities continue to coordinate logistics, traffic management, and emergency response plans, ensuring the day is memorable for its patriotism and unity rather than unfortunate incidents.

RC Kitiyo’s warning serves as a timely reminder that safety should come first, even amid national festivities.
