On Thursday 18th, December, a group of Tiriki (a sub-tribe of the wider Luhya community) Elders' visited the home of former Cabinet Minister for Rural Development and Lugari constituency Member of Parliament (MP) late Cyrus Jirongo's, Gigiri home in Nairobi, to pass their condolences to his grieving family.
During the visitation, the Elders' who were dressed in their traditional attire, vowed that the former lawmaker who was a Tiriki and born in Vihiga, will not go down to the soil without stern repacassions being witnessed in the upcoming days.
As a result, the elders were not shy to invoke curses, after they prayed for Cyrus Jirongo's spirit to pursue and haunt all who could have had their hands involved in the former lawmaker's untimely death, that attracted huge attention from the public and sparked unending questions sorounding his controversial death.
Led by one Wandabuli, the elders offered a joint prayer, invoking Cyrus Jirongo's spirit not to give his killers peace until those who were probably involved follow the same route to the grave.
In a rather controversial fashion, the Elders' suggested that Cyrus Jirongo to be buried lying supine (lying on the back with the face pointing upwards) which is contrary to the Luhya burial custom and tradition.
As per their pronouncement, that will enable the deceased to continue pursuing justice even while in his grave.
Aside from that, the Elders' also showered unending praise to Mr Jirongo for lifting the name of Tiriki community higher in the political arena, during the days he was influential and untouchable as a Cabinet Minister and as MP.
