Alleged Handbag Found in Jirongo’s Car Sparks Heated Debate as Former Female Senator Reacts

As the nation mourns the loss of veteran politician and former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, who died in a tragic road accident on December 13, a contentious debate over the circumstances of his final hours has erupted, drawing sharp condemnation from fellow leaders.

Jirongo’s Mercedes-Benz was involved in a devastating head-on collision with a bus along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway. In the immediate aftermath, the focus appeared to be on the tragedy of the crash itself.

However, public discourse quickly shifted as unverified narratives began to circulate online and in some media circles.

These reports speculated that Jirongo had been in the company of a woman shortly before the accident, with some accounts fixating on details like an alleged handbag found in his vehicle.

This turn in the conversation has provoked outrage, most notably from politician Gloria Orwoba.

While paying her respects at Jirongo’s home, Orwoba launched a forceful rebuke of what she termed a deliberate smear campaign.

She accused unnamed “powerful people” and, pointedly, “the state” of propagating false narratives intended to tarnish the late MP’s reputation and distract from a proper investigation.

“Why has the attention shifted from seeking truth and accountability to spreading rumours about alleged personal relationships?” Orwoba questioned.

She passionately defended Jirongo’s character, describing him as an open and honest man who lived without secrecy.

She argued that salacious claims were being weaponised to scandalise a man no longer able to defend himself, causing profound disrespect to his grieving family, which has shown notable unity.

Orwoba’s sentiments have found resonance among other politicians from Jirongo’s community and the opposition, who are collectively urging authorities to concentrate solely on the factual investigation into the crash.

The online sphere remains divided, with many citizens calling for respect for the deceased and his family, while others express concern that the tragedy is being politicised.
