As Kenyans usher in 2026, Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i has issued a stark warning, painting a grim picture of the nation’s future if urgent action isn’t taken.
In a message posted on his official X account on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, Matiang’i reflected on a challenging 2025 and highlighted what lies ahead.
“May I take this early opportunity to wish you a Happy and Prosperous 2026. I thank the Almighty God for the precious gift of life throughout a challenging year and for allowing us to cross over into 2026,” he said.
The veteran politician described 2025 as a year of soaring living costs, declining healthcare quality, rising insecurity, and school dropouts linked to delayed free education funding.
Matiang’i didn’t hold back in his criticism of the Kenya Kwanza government, claiming it has eroded development gains and pushed the country closer to economic and leadership turmoil.
“Unless substantial efforts are made in 2026, our country will continue sliding into poverty and dehumanising living conditions,” he warned.
He also called for a nationwide voter registration drive, particularly targeting universities and colleges, urging young Kenyans to prepare for the 2027 General Election.
“The United Opposition will work tirelessly to stop the slide of the country. No one should be left behind,” Matiang’i concluded, signaling that the political battles for next year are already heating up.
