National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has sent a message of congratulations to all candidates who emerged victorious in the recent by elections, calling the outcomes a reflection of Kenya’s vibrant democratic spirit.
He commended the electorate for turning out to vote peacefully and urged leaders from all political backgrounds to rise above the heat of competition and focus on rebuilding trust and unity across the country.
Wetangula noted that every election, whether won or lost, offers the nation an opportunity to reflect on its progress and renew its commitment to democratic values.
He emphasized that Kenya’s journey toward becoming a modern and competitive nation depends heavily on the ability of its citizens and leaders to protect social cohesion, respect institutions, and embrace political diversity without fueling division.
Addressing the political setbacks experienced by his allies in Western Kenya during the by elections, Wetangula said that leadership should never be defined solely by victories or losses at the ballot.
Instead, he insisted that setbacks should energize leaders to reconnect with communities, listen more carefully to their concerns, and strengthen engagement at the grassroots.
He added that the country cannot afford to slip into cycles of tension triggered by electoral contests, reminding leaders that the responsibility to safeguard national stability does not rest with the government alone but with every Kenyan.
According to him, unity remains the most powerful tool for achieving the country’s long term aspirations, including the goal of transforming Kenya into a globally competitive and prosperous nation.
Wetangula urged newly elected leaders to treat their mandates with humility and to serve with integrity, transparency, and fairness.
He concluded by calling on the public to support their new representatives and continue nurturing a political culture that values peace, dialogue, and national interest above partisan rivalry.
