Oburu Odinga Will Replace DP Kindiki In January _ David Murathe Reveals

Former Jubilee vice-chair David Murathe has stirred fresh debate in national politics after alleging that Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga had been considered for the position of Deputy President in an internal government realignment planned for January.

Speaking during a televised interview on Saturday, Murathe claimed that senior figures within the Kenya Kwanza administration had floated Oburu’s name as a “stabilising choice” following months of quiet tensions between President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Kindiki.

According to Murathe, the proposal was meant to usher in a new political balance ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

Murathe asserted that Oburu’s long career in public service and his perceived ability to calm political tempers made him an attractive option for those pushing for the shake-up.

He also suggested that the plan stalled after concerns emerged over how such a move would be received within both UDA and the wider Nyanza voting bloc, especially in the period following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Neither State House nor leaders close to Oburu have commented on Murathe’s claims, and no formal evidence has been presented to support the alleged January plan.

However, the remarks have already opened new speculation about shifting alliances and the future of the deputy presidency as the 2027 race begins to take shape.

Political observers say the comments reflect growing unease within political circles, where high-level succession conversations are increasingly spilling into the public domain.

Whether Murathe’s assertion signals genuine behind-the-scenes discussions or simply political posturing remains to be seen.
