Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has ruled out any possibility of holding talks with President William Ruto, branding him a “pathological liar” unworthy of any form of negotiation.
Speaking on Saturday, July 12, while on his two-month tour of the United States, Gachagua made it clear that he has no interest in engaging with t Head of State, despite recent calls for a national dialogue championed by Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga.
“It is not possible to have dialogue with Ruto because the guy is a pathological liar,” Gachagua declared during a public address to Kenyans living in Dallas, Texas.
He jokingly added that some leaders were even beginning to question if Ruto’s real name was indeed William Ruto.
The outspoken former deputy president insisted that he would not be part of any talks involving the President, stating,

“If there is any talk with William Ruto, I am not available. I also believe my sister Martha Karua is not available either.”
His remarks came shortly after Raila Odinga’s passionate call for a “national conclave” to bring together government officials, opposition leaders, and the youth — especially Gen Z protesters — to tackle Kenya’s ongoing economic and social challenges.
On July 7, during the commemoration of the historic Saba Saba protests, Raila emphasized the need for a national conversation to address issues such as high living costs, corruption, and human rights violations.

He argued that the country was facing the same struggles that pushed Kenyans to the streets in the early 1990s, and only a united national effort could steer the nation forward.
However, Gachagua dismissed Raila’s proposals as self-serving. He accused the veteran opposition figure of repeatedly using dialogue to secure a place in government after every election loss.
“Raila is totally irrelevant in the Kenyan political discourse. Every election, he loses, then finds his way into government. He wants power without responsibility,” Gachagua said.
He further claimed that Raila only speaks out against the government when it suits his interests, suggesting that Odinga should resign any government roles if he truly cared about the nation.
Currently, Gachagua is engaging the Kenyan diaspora as he builds momentum for his 2027 presidential campaign, promising to offer what he calls a “truthful and focused alternative” leadership.
